  • Auch nach 3 Stunden karaffieren klare Alk Dominanz. Kein guter Single Wein, vielleicht besser zu Fleisch oder anderen Gerichten.

  • Great bottle. Tertiary notes (earthy, musty, mushroom, coffee) open undertones of dried red cranberry, red fruit jam, and raisins. Integrated and full body, with refreshing acidity balancing high but not excessively warming alcohol. Tannins are almost resolved and smooth, residual sugar is noticeable. Full body, persistent finish though with a bit of thinness underlying the flavors. Cherry, some vegetables notes, toast, mineral dust. Integrated and with layers, I wish there was a bit more persistence and complexity. But overall a great wine.

  • Decanted for 3 hours. Cherry notes, cranberry, medium finish. Also, it felt a little boozy. I think I'll wait another couple of years before trying next bottle.

  • Dark plum, prunes, dark chocolate and spice notes on the very aromatic nose. Close to full bodied (16.5% ABV) with black cherry and black raspberry upfront. Excellent mid-body depth, bringing in plums, dates and other mixed blackfruit notes, but all in a silky, elegant and refined style. After being open four hours, the mid-body in particular was just singing. The fruit is backed with balanced tannins, acidity and spices that while fully in balance with the fruit contributes backbone and overall definition. Finishes with spices, dates, minerals and a lingering combination of tart red fruit and floral qualities. There's enough structure here and certainly enough fruit to continue to improve over the next 2-3 years and last several years beyond that. Given how well this showed at 12 years of age tells me I should plan to hold my 2011 and 2013 noticeable longer than I had first planned, regardless of how well they may be showing now.

  • As a lover of fine Italian Amarone ( specifically Quintarelli and Bussola ), I was hesitant about giving this reserve wine a high rating. The nose was explosive with shades of prune, dark cherry, menthol, and clove. On the palate it felt just too overdone with ultra ripe/stewed fruit not countered by balancing acidity and structure. Although probably a nice meal ending wine, I can't imagine what food could hold up to this other than the most pungent cheeses.

Although power and richness tend to be the hallmarks of the Amarone style, I just felt this was a tad too much of a good thing with the caveat that this may show better in 5 years when some of the primary fruit melts away.
