Excellent! Brut Nature all the way, and I agree, not austere. Pan grilled salmon, pan fried potatoes, and Brussel sprouts with Dijon mustard. Red fruits, dryness and extract. Super for the table. The label is a hoot. Don't over analyze, just enjoy. Thanks to the west coast importer for the midwestern consumer.

Darker golden color. Aromas of citrus, cherry pit, and light butter give way to blood orange, redcurrant, and a floral honey note on the palate. Weighty, but with a tart and crisp finish. 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Pinot Meunier.

No dosage and only one gram of residual sugar. 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Meunier and based on the 2008 harvest, disgorged in Spring 2012. I'm a big fan of Benoit Marguet, from his care of the vineyards to the fact that he puts disgorgement dates on his bottles. This Brut Nature just didn't do it for me, though. I usually enjoy no-dosage wines but the Marguet line seems to benefit from at least a touch of dosage. Go for their Blanc de Noir, or their vintage if you can lay it down for a couple years or more.

Pre-Valentine's Day Champagnes (K&L Wines, San Francisco and San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Deeper yellow. Not that lively. Complex yeasty, strawberry nose. Weighty. Lovely dry red fruit that is very serious. Good minerality, excellent depth. This is a very good buy at $35.
