Tasted next to a magnum of the 1989. Lovely nose, sweet fruit, hints of vanilla. On the palate quite soft, grainy tannins, good acidity and fruit. Good length. 91-93

Forest berries, earth, spices, smoke on the nose. On the palate soft and fresh with good fruit, quite open. Some minerality towards the finish. A little linear, but very good. 90-92

Decanted and served two bottles, both deep brick in color with minimal sediment. The first bottle started off tasting too old and flat but opened up after 30 minutes and became a very pleasant, if not exciting, mature wine. The second bottle was something else entirely -- stellar and still vibrant, with plenty of dark fruit left after 18 years. Don't wait.

This was better than I expected, given the vintage. Considerable bricking at the rim, it shows its 16 years. Tobacco, raspberry and caramel round out the medium body. Very well balanced, complex and sophisticated, this shows the age-worthiness of Pesquera.
