Tahbilk visit with Alistair Purbrick and Neil Larson (Tahbilk Winery, Nagambie Lakes, Victoria.): The greenness I perceived in the other Cabernets makes it's presence felt here to, this is quite herbaceous and there's a bit of eucalyptus character at the forefront too. Some other spices that I presume are from the judicious oak use. The palate seems hot and clumsy, and the tannin is quite coarse and clunky. There's good fruit here but it's buried under a lot of stuffing. Maybe too young.

2013 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting & Trophy Wines Lunch (homebush & Darling Harbour): {screwcap} I was into the cabernets, and this was far lighter in hue than anything else; enough to be noticeable in a speed-tasting exercise. The nose was as subtle as the colour suggested, offering fine cedary aromas wound with sandalwood and subtle black berries. The palate was surprisingly dense, solidly medium-bodied, with quite concentrated bracken and herb flavours, and a real earthy touch to it. Medium chalky tannins were in proportion, the presence is even along the tongue, and there’s a medium-long finish that promises a decent cellaring future. Not a knockout wine at all, but seems to have the makings of a quiet achiever.
