Dark, inky purple color. Perfumy fruity aroma. Notes of berries, leather. Slightly buttery finish. Good tannins. Smoother, less acidic and not as intense as most vintages of North Gate’s PV. 2011 was a rainy year, with lots of rain at harvest time, and it shows in this wine.
93% Petit Verdot from North Gate and 7% Merlot from Russ Mountain.

deep dark fruit with strong tannic structure, that probably should have been given more time. There is a good balance of acidity; the wine evolved through dinner though with the tannins smoothing out and paired nicely with a grilled rib eye. I remembered being surprised at the winery, and was surprised again. Virginia shows great potential.
