Great education in the evolution of a 1er cru over the course of a night. Terrific and expressive nose upon opening, with a tightly-wound taste that wasn't ready yet. An hour later, it had opened up - but it was, uh, boring. Like: eh. Good length but not a lot of complexity. Then I had that wine-killer of a meal: pesto pasta. And yet this wine overdelivered. It was a fantastic accompanyment. And on the other side of dinner it kept improving. It's light-to-medium bodied, more floral than fruity, and subtle. My experience with 1er cru isn't vast yet, so no score, but I'd say this is pleasing and probably as complex as you'd hope but not something you'd write in your journal with little hearts over it. Very good. EDIT: Is it good on Day 2? Yes, it is!

La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Another wine rarely seen. All red fruit with good textures and background spice. Fresh and pleasurable today. Very expressive of Chambolle. Very good.

Bird's Eye View of 2011 Burgundy-The 2014 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco): Light red color. Beautiful combination of light red fruit and soil tones. Delicate, lovely wine, gentle finish. I love Chambolle when it shows such subtlety and its ethereal side.
