Hospice Auction Wine Night (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA): Sabered for fun. My last bottle of this, and another good one. Savory, with strawberry, kumquat, and spice. Most wines from Philipponnat seem to mature slowly, but this one was primed.

A good bottle. More savory than my last bottle two years ago. Amber copper colored. I’ve never mentioned kumquat in a tasting note, but they were here. Fun start to the night, paired well with a winning game of euchre.

My final btl, but this has really hit its stride. On the nose: cranberry, candied kumquat, lemon oil, very soft vanilla, all linked together to make a lovely dense cramberry citrus custard. On the palate, this has a soft mousse, adding some lift to the cranberry, kumquat and honeyed flavors all energized by a fantastic acidity...good density on the finish. Very nice.

Beautiful vinous rose. Deep salmon in color. Soft bubbles. Great minerality and a touch yeasty on the nose. On the palate, great acidity; pencil shavings, grapefruit pith, sour cherry. A touch linear and a bit of a quick finish, but the bubbles carry the fruit and stone notes really well.

This was a great surprise. The most mature Champagne from 2006 that I ever tasted.
Fantastic power and deep. Cherry, oak, wet stone, chalk.
The colour was light orange. Mousse was good with small fresh bubbles.
