  • Last tried this in 2019, and noted that I shouldn't open another bottle for 2+ years -- mission accomplished!
In any case, this has opened up a little since then and has become more enjoyable. Still has some unwinding to do, as this is still pretty dense. Some phenolic bitterness to go along with the classic OR fruit. Noticed some slightly elevated VA this go around, that detracted some, but not much. I'll hang on to my last bottle for another few years at least.

  • $30 nine years ago! Decanted off some significant sediment for 30', this is another bottle exceeded my usual drinking window for OPN! My Last note:

5/31/2014 rated 90 points: PHMG WAG: 2012 Oregon Pinot Noir (Lyon Den): We really enjoyed this now despite the FH mantra of being big and needing time. Earthy black fruit, spice, leather, and pie crust in a muscular package (for a pinot). Best 2015-2020 (2060 views)

Still has lots of fruit, really well integrated and smoooooth. Ohhh, so this is why some people age PN?!?! Now-2025.

  • A cherry cola aroma similar to a Russian River Pinot. The palate has candied fruit, bitter cherry, and licorice. A bitterness pervades the finish. The high acidity cuts through the heaviness. I realize this notes sounds like I didn’t enjoy it, but I did, because it was interesting and these wines are always well made. My befuddlement is that it is so much more like a Pinot Noir from the Russian River than Willamette Valley.

  • Splash decanted for several hours. Very aromatic nose of earthy red fruit. On the palate, raspberry, a bit of candied cherry, forest floor. Dense pure fruit. Medium plus body, fresh but not juicy. Some spices and slightly bitter tannins towards the rather short finish. I enjoyed this after some air, especially the aromatics. No rush, I expect it will keep at this level for 5-10 years easy.

I heeded my own advice and waited almost exactly one year since my last bottle. This bottle was actually quite similar, but did show some evolution I think. Again, was wound up pretty tight on the pop 'n pour with a little initial stink that blew off pretty quickly. Wasn't particularly enjoyable at this point and it was late, so I vacuum sealed it and wasn't able to try it again for 2 days. At this point, I was greeted by lovely lifted WV Pinot aromatics. On the palate, this was brooding and dense with pure fruit, not encumbered by any overt oak character. Plenty of acidity, but not in a light and bright presentation at all. Texture was sappy and succulent, typical of many PGC wines. An intellectual new world Pinot but also pleasing and enjoyable. Still kind of felt a bit wound up and not fully expressive, but this has the density and concentration to go for a long time further in the cellar and could be 20+ year wine in my estimation.
Note to self - don't try another bottle for 2+ years at least.
