  • Tasted at the winery, from 1.5L. Previously tasted at the winery (also from magnum) almost four and half years ago and the bottle today was clearly better and a much better indicator of where the wine truly is today. I now suspect that the prior bottle didn't show as I anticipated was probably a small flaw, like a slightly failed cork.

Very pretty and aromatic nose with mainly white tropical notes, backed with some white orchard qualities and a touch of minerals. Between light and medium bodied and showing rounded and open white orchard fruits initially (apple and peach) but also brings in some brighter pear notes for contrast. Mid-body adds more white peach along with some tropical highlights, but the focus was white orchard notes. Fruits definition through the mid-body was a strength, aided by the nice little burst of acidity that came in on the back. Showing quite well overall at present and has enough acidity to remain in a good spot for a bit longer.

  • Expressive nose. Touch of petrol. Great palate intensity. Long citrus peel, honeyed apple finish.

    WSET Notes:

    Medium lemon green.

Pronounced on the nose with apple, pear, white blossom, wet stone, petrol, tangerine, honey. Developing.

Pronounced and dry on the palate with citrus peel coming through. High acidity, light body, medium alcohol, long finish.

Can drink now but has potential for aging.

  • Pale gold with reflections of yellow. When it comes to Riesling aging what is said to be simple wines often turns out surprisingly well. This is fully mature but still lively and effusive with tons of varietal character. On the nose it is evocative of dried peach, fresh green apple, papaya, lime zest, tarragon, honeysuckle, lilies, almonds and crushed stones. Medium bodied and not really dry on the palate, with medium+ acidity and a texture that is at once lithe from the acidity and bosomy from the sugar. There's a lot of wine here for the roughly $15 I paid for this.

  • Nice mature riesling that has the expected gold color and honey notes. But disappointed by an undertone of woody note(s) on both the palate and the finish. The rest is wonderful and probably still age worthy. Don't know what is going on with the woody stuff.

  • Light golden color.
Nose: hint of wax, floral honey.
Palate: golden apple, floral, fruity; reminiscent of a forest river with cool water.

Still some residual sweetness despite the name, or intensity of fruit? Regardless, a very nice domestic riesling of considerable class. still drinking well.
