N: A medicinal (?) note that I found unattractive blew off with swirling to notes of cherries/earth, picking up notes of orange rind with even > air;
P: LM body; Rndish entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an astringent pucker which stays in contact with the init frt as it seamlessly transitions into a LONG, POSS very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with an enticing tangy/swtness to the firming, dusty tannins. I suspect @ its peak (or a BIT beyond?), but SHOULD still drink acceptably 'til '23 or so. 14.9% ABV; My EXC for a NICELY done wine that's THE best CA version of this varietal *I* can recall tasting! :) 92 pts Tanzer

I think it's time to drink up. This was nice, integrated, somewhat elegant shortly after opening. Some bright red fruit on the nose and some tar and dried brush and dried autumn leaves. After a while with air it got a bit tart, still good, but getting a bit faded.

Two hour decant. Still tannins but nice ones. Lots of mushroom, and cherry. Had with a grilled steak and it was a nice match. Have another in the cellar and am planning on a nice beef stew this winter for it.

Day 1 - Central Coast Tastings (Central Coast - CA): Another "strip the enamel off your teeth" type of wine. The tannins are so raw that it's really hard to get a sense of what's going on here. On the nose, however, the rose and earth components are quite nice. While the palate is unyielding at this point, the nose suggests a really elegant wine underneath.

Medicinal Iodine overpowers the fruit in this bottle. I hope it is a flaw bottle since I have more in the cellar. I will try another soon to see.
