Amazeballs. This winery was a hidden gem in Napa. They never submitted their wine for review, but sold out every vintage. We bought this during a visit to the winery in 2014. We sat in plastic lawn chairs in the vineyard with John Guilliams, and he explained how he had to re-orient and replant his vineyard in the early 80s - because what he'd been taught at UC Davis was wrong! Unfortunately for fans of the winery, they sold it shortly after our visit. We've had several bottles of this vintage over the years, all excellent, but this was the best so far. I decanted it, and paired with beef tenderloin on NYE - a superb pairing. Tannins were smooth, the oak integrated, black pepper, dark fruit, earthiness on the palate. Drinking so well right now, but this has years ahead of it. I have a couple of bottles left and won't be in a rush to open them.

Opened to celebrate OTBN http://guides.wsj.com/wine/entertaining-and-celebrating-with-wine/open-that-bottle-night/ This bottle was special because Shawn Guilliams poured us our first taste, and sold me this bottle, along with one of her precious tasting glasses. It’s the last one I have. Beautiful Spring Mtn fruit. The color looks like it was put in the bottle yesterday. 5/5 Aroma of plum, dried cranberries, thyme?, 13/15 Beautiful mouthfeel. Softened silky tannins, perfect right now. Good plum jam finish with just a bit of pepper. 19/20 Tannins, structure and alcohol could have made this a 30 year Cellar time. 10/10 Worth the wait. Amazing. Wish I’d had the foresight to buy more than one bottle.

Tasted better at the winery. Would drink now. Nice bottle with a steak dinner.
