Served single blind, we all managed to guess this correctly. It actually drinks young, with quite a lot of oak and fruit. I will note that a bottle 2 years ago got a 5 hour decant and I enjoyed it more. I think Myriad should dial back the oak, it is excessive and hasn't resolved in this wine yet, at least with 30 minutes in glass.

Single Blind Old Napa Virtual Tasting (Home): Very dark red/purple color. Followed one glass single blind over 2 hours. There was little doubt that this was the '11 Myriad in anyone's mind. Forward nose of blackberry and black cherry, distinctly green and herbaceous, bell pepper, young, loads of vanilla. The palate is full bodied, green, herbaceous, somewhat jammy black fruits, blackberry, flabby, vanilla, black cherry-vanilla, and just a little blowsy. Yes, this is probably a controversial wine - and while it is still relatively young, at 9 years it makes me question where this goes. I'm sure there's a lot of people who will find the fruit component appealing enough to overcome the other aspects of the wine. Or maybe they don't even need to do that. For me, this is a non-starter that I don't care to drink. No score. Personal note is less than 88.

This was a single blind tasting. Everyone knew the wines, but not the order or which wine was which....the lineup:
1996 Ridge Monte Bello 2011 Myriad Cellars 2001 Joseph Phelps Insignia 1996 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard 2002 Dunn Howell Mountain 2012 Kirkland Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Araujo Estate Sauvignon Blanc Eisele Vineyard
Dunn was opened and decanted to remove sediment, then back in the bottle at 2:30, until 4:45, when it was poured into jar 6 oz for transporting. The rest of the wines were poured in glass jars starting at 4:15. Tasting began at 6:30. All wines were tasted between 6:30 and 8:00. Group's number 1 wine was the 1992 Dunn. Number 2 wine was the 1996 Heitz Martha's Vineyard.
2011 Myriad Napa Valley - This was a polarizing wine. I was in the camp that liked this wine. Although youthful, it had tons of fruit and vanilla, with toasted oak and some hints of chocolate . The wine had enough fruit to mask any alcohol, and this wine was smooth with virtually no heat. It is a big, CA Cab, and if you are fan of this style, you will enjoy the wine. I would have no problem drinking this wine anytime! It is a solid, well-made wine that is a crowd pleaser. It lacks complexity, but makes up for that with well-integrated fruit that dominates the palate. It will be interesting to see if this wine comes together with more aging. It seems to lack the basic structure and acidity for long term aging (20+ years), but it still may benefit from a couple more years in the cellar. Having said that, this wine is very enjoyable now, especially if you like big wines! Mine and the groups #5. Tried again the next morning, and the wine held up pretty well...I will raise my score to a 91+, but not sure where this wine is going. A little more alcohol was showing the next day, which makes me tquestion if it is the wine or the vintage. Still has big fruit, so no hurry to drink, but I am curious how this ages.

Decanted for one hour. Aromas of blackberry, currant, milk chocolate, licorice and spice. Black and blue fruit, chocolate, spice and fine tannins on the palate. Long smooth finish. Full bodied. Drinking very well. Served with grilled cheeseburgers.
