  • Cloudy, dirty lemon yellow color with a big, but very short-lived white head. As characterful nose as one could expect from a young gueuze: aromas of old, savory wood, barnyard funk, sweet grainy notes, some sour lemony sharpness, a little bruised apple, a hint of ammonia and a cheesy hint of old hops. On the palate the beer is dry and sour, but not as bracingly sour and sharp as some gueuzes can be - this is actually surprisingly approachable for a gueuze! There are moderately sour flavors of barnyard, green apples, some old grainy malt, a little lemony fruit and hints of rustic, dirty spiciness. The carbonation feels medium to moderate. The bright and refreshing finish is quite long and sour with grapefruity tartness, some lemon juice flavors, a little peppery spices and a slightest hint of barnyard funk. True to the style, there is no noticeable hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

A classic and stylistically pure gueuze that is thoroughly tasty, but is not as impressive as the best examples of this unique style. However, this is also a bit more approachable than the most serious (and often bracingly sour) gueuzes, like Cantillon. Overall this beer is a reliable high-quality gueuze made in the good old-school style. A good purchase at 7,79€ for a 375 ml bottle.
