Open THAT Bottle Night (Joe's Restaurante): 2 hour decant - from a .375 - Note: quite a bit of sediment, some of it very fine...I poured it back into the bottle after 2 hours and quite a bit of fine sediment was in the decanter, and that was after running it through a screen when I decanted. Cork loosely placed back on the bottle, then stored in a passive cellar while we ate dinner, then served (about 3 hours later)
It's been a couple years since I last had a bottle of this port. It continues to impress (at least me!) Time has not been cruel to this wine, and it is progressing at a snail's pace, which is alright with me! The nose shows plenty of sweet red, purple and black fruit, with some spice and tar notes. Chocolate covered cherries still dominate the palate, but it also shows some dark cherry cordial, some plum and some blackberry jam, with additional notes of spice, anise, tobacco and forest floor. The alcohol is well covered by the silky fruit, but you do have a sense it is there. I believe this will be a legendary port down the road, but it is absolutely delicious now! 94+ for me! It makes me wonder why don't drink port more often!
Fortified Evening with the TWS North London Group (Must & Lees, Warren Street): Rich and deep, plush and balanced sweetness. Dark, superb fruit and spice, silky and lithe but with trememdous reserves of power. There is orange peel, liquorice and boiled cherry sweets sitting atop a liquid pudding. This is how you envisage a quintessentially classic Vintage Port to taste like. Or I do at any rate. The youngest of the evening (1970, 1985, 1994) by a huge margin and yet my WOTN, what is this telling me?

Open that bottle - Dan chooses 2014 Saxum Paderewski (My house): A small pour from a half bottle. Forward and fruity for sure. Delicious blackberry and boysenberry. Sweet, fruity, liqueurish.

Christmas port 2022.
Excellent. Blackberry, strawberry and Currant on the nose. Silky smooth fruit. More time will be good to this one.
