  • Opened four hours before, not decanted. Quite a rich mouthful of dark cherry and blackberry, with some earthy touches mid-palate and a decent finish.

I liked the silky texture, not something which characterised Carbonnieux in the past. There is still a strong sense of place too, this is very much a Pessac-Léognan. The only slight problem is that the fruit verges on being a little syrupy - it is just saved by the crisp finish, so it is a little heady.

This has come on well since my last bottle four years ago but I think it will improve further.

  • Dark blackish purple red with a clear watery edge. Very enticing and engaging nose highlighted by rich black and dark red fruits, cedar, spice, new leather and a fresh floral lift. Very lively, soft, smooth, and silky on the palate, dry, medium-bodied, medium intensity, with pretty much every major components in place. The flavor components of this wine includes dark berries, fresh flowers, wet leaves, cedar, slight vanilla, leather, excelsa coffee, earthy minerals and increasingly pronounced gravel earthiness and graphite towards the backend. This wine seemed to be a lot more fuller upon opening but gradually became a bit weedy and watery for my liking after 30 minutes of air. Though not the most complex by any means, this Pessac-Leognan red have all the fundamental elements of a decent wine in place especially it’s killer nose. This wine is at a really good place now and drinking very well at this juncture. In terms of its future, personally I don’t think that this wine will improve much more and would give it another 4 - 6 years of pleasant drinking at most. On Day 2: This wine is much integrated and drinking beautifully, a truly lovely Bordeaux indeed.

  • Very good example of a Pessac-Leognan. Dark earth, cherries, medium bodied. Hints of flowers at the finish. Drinking very well right now in 2020.
