Tasted with Coravin. Opaque purple color with some shiny red towards the rim. High viscosity. Explosive but very complex nose of black currant, black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate, leather, smoke, crushed flowers and some elderberries and elderflowers. With some more air, also some red fruits develop as well as some eucalyptus/mint. On the palate there is mainly dark fruit again, but also some flowers, tobacco, minerality (tar), spices and some slightly bitter dark plum (in a good way). It's full-bodied, dense and massive, but doesn't feel overly heavy due to the medium-high spine of acidity and the medium+ tannin adding grip. Long and complex finish. This is an aged but still youtful and full-throttle and bold Barossa Shiraz of the very highest level with lots of complexity and freshness. While my personal taste has moved slightly away from this big style of wine over the last years the top-notch quality is undeniable. And whenever I am opening a bottle of Rockford Shiraz (Basket Press or the single vineyards) they never ever disappoint. Wow!

Australian Cult Wines (Sydney, Australia): This wine delivers a ripe, rich, crowd pleasing nose of liquorice, blueberry, raspberry, blueberry and a cherry liqueur character. The palate was ripe and packed with deep fruit flavour but also showed good length and balance. I was surprised to find out that this was ten years old and still showing so much primary fruit character - it seems like it is going to live a very long life and if it stays balanced it could be very good.

The return of JonnyG: Awful. I hope this wasn't a representative bottle. Hot alcohol, menthol and varnish. The palate is an alcoholic mess.

Flawed. Tremendous heat, and unmistakable acetate. I waited and waited, but it never blew off. Highly tannic and hot.
