  • Fresh red fruit on the nose, tar, mint and balsamico; very fragrant, young and of course absolutely old school / classic. The palate is full of energy and vigor, extremely lively, so fresh, with bright acidity, quite atypical for 2009. Still young and primary with the sweetest, most beautiful fruit imaginable, so delicious already but with immense potential. Beautiful fine tannins. Outstanding and a benchmark, as usual. 18.5+/20

  • Decanted for an hour before service - somewhat surprisingly, this wasn't too far off the mark. In the glass, medium-dark ruby red at the core, garnet at the rim. On the nose, cherry, tar, and some high-toned aromatics of damp wood and citrus. On the palate, a focused, clean mix of cherries, asphalt, and oranges, with a smooth texture and yielding tannins on the finish. Best bottle yet, and I think more improvement lies ahead...

  • Largely consistent with previous bottles - perhaps more fragrant than I remember, which is to the good.

  • Black and red cherry, earth, leather and spices on the nose. Close to full bodied (14.5% ABV) with rounded and pretty black cherry upfront. Adds some darker plum through the middle and starts to open up, but then tannins and acidity come in quickly behind. They don't shut down the wine fully and after about 4 hours open the transition from mid-body to finish is showing much improved integration. Tart notes and drying qualities along with sweet spices, minerals and earth notes through the finish. For now, the upfront shows nice fruit, the mid-body is developing and backside integration is improving. If opening now, I'd decant or open at least 4 hours in advance. Approachable now, but should be a bit better in the future; however, I don't see it reaching the heights that some professional critics reviews would lead you to believe. Next bottle for me, no sooner than Fall 2023.
