Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Most of the 1970s wines tasted tonight were very light, with tannins faded almost to nothingness; in contrast, this palate was medium-to-full-bodied, with moderate tannin and a silky finish. Light nose, with hints of black jellybean and bay leaf. Mild flavours of blackberry, black cherry, and tarragon, with a faint note of leather.

  • At 208 Restaurant Hong Kong Australia Day Rare Wine Lunch - my colleague described this as like something coming straight from the Valrhona chocolate factory. I would add with a hint of brandy. It was slightly oxidised on the nose but that dissipated slowly. My first time trying a Hill of Grace of this age. Definitely interesting but I get the feeling the pedigree these wines have now, which in my view often surpass Grange, was not there back in 1971.
