Spice driven start with nicely fresh red, black and blue berries throughout. Faintly floral and lots of elegant textures. Good concentration, very good balance. Younger than I expect for 1996 Volnay 1er Cru at this stage. VG now, with the structure to drink well for another decade+ as it evolves.

IPNC Lunches and Dinners; 7/26/2013-7/27/2013 (McMinnville OR): Tasting, brief note. Very forward and accessible for a 1996 with charming (mostly) black and blue fruit and classically Volnay spice and perfume. Moderate length and intensity but very good balance with sweet fruit and spice. At its peak now with good freshness, but I expect this will continue at this quality level for at least another decade while evolving.

Light red color with brownish rim, quite opulent nose which is very floral with red flowers and spices. Palate with medium body, plummy with nice acidity to make it very interesting. Not a lot of depth but a very good burgundy. Very elegant more like a Cote de nuits wine.

Cloudy red in color, nose quite open at first with flowers petals, beef jerky, quite masculine that I thot was MSD? Palate took an hour to catch up. When it did, what a nice wine it is. Palate is layered with fragrant plums and cherries that is focused, persistent with nice fresh acidity, ready but will hold for 5+ years, a beauty.
