This has long been one of my favorite wines, but this was the first time I had the wine where it tasted fully mature. Rich, long, complex, everything I want in a wine. Love it.

An excellent nose of soft red cherry and ripe strawberry with damp leather, some underbrush, and cedar notes (think a slightly toned down version of the 1990). Outstanding palate with fully mature red fruit supported by rich soil and damp earth. Deep and brooding but still very clean and pretty. Red cedar, some spice, leather, tobacco. Great.

A weekend of Jacky Truchot; 1/28/2006-1/29/2006 (Washington DC): Closed nose, can't read much from it. Very well-knit and structured. Hard to judge with closed flavors. Some time delivers some real power (at least for a Truchot wine) and density. Very appealling Peychaud bitters and mineral elements. Quiet fruit lurking beneath. All the pieces in place.

Initially with a touch of petillance on the tongue, this disappeared thankfully. This was a nice medium-weight red wine that didn't scream Clos de la Roche or old vines. Decent fruit and nose, but nothing memorable with my first encounter with this reportedly up and coming producer . . . alan
