Bottle with respectable level and as authentically looking as we could hope for. This showed very nicely - a slight hint of oxidation disappeared quickly and gave way to a lovely wine. Held up well for an hour and after that it started to decline slowly, with iodine aromas taking over.

Haut-Brion vertical tasting (and a bit of La Mission Haut-Brion) (Wine Watch, Fort Lauderdale, Florida): Still a very dark color with amber brown edges. Nose if still charming, but really showing its age, with prune, raisin, tomato, black licorice, and forest floor. Over time, took on a bit of green bean aroma as well. Lacking a bit of body, but had a smooth mouthfeel. A bit maderized. Tannins resolved. A bit vinegary and acidic on the finish. Impressive that a wine from 1937 could be so drinkable but we probably just got lucky with this bottle.

Dark ruby in the glass - Looked no different than early '80s. Brooding and intriguing nose of leathers, cigar tobacco, and cigar box. Some of the Haut-Brion spiciness surviving. Slightly maderized on the palate, but only slightly, with sweet red cherry and ripe cranberry. Very much alive and still a pleasure to drink. Tough to give a fair score considering the age. Special.

Annual Richter Extravaganza (All bottles out of magnums) (Farnsburg): Deep dark color, Herbal, cookie dough, malt, butter, caramel. Long and rich, this was plain awesomness in liquid form

BYOB Haut Brion 60 Year Perspective (Les Nomades Chicago): Very dark color, prunny, not dead, sweet, light, port like and a taste of fortification. Had backbone, concentration, below shoulder.
