Second time trying. At 22 this is still in good shape but I felt is at its time to drink. Still some sweet fruit albeit showing some secondary. If you have, drink up.

2000 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck): A tremendous wine. We took a noticeable step-up with this flight (served together with a 2000 Fourrier Griotte), and that is really saying something given the quality on the previous set of wines. This really was quite marvelous – a more masculine counterpoint to the almost feminine elegance and finesse of the Fourrier. There was so much going on here, starting from the nose with its lovely mineral tones, with lots of earthy aromas flecked with hints of iron, then drifts of savoury meat and cigarette smoke and loads of warm spicy tones, all wrapped a core of lovely cherry aromas. There was still just a little suggestion of oak in there somewhere, adding to the complexity. Great stuff. It was on the palate that the wine truly showed its strength though. There was huge depth on this, with a wonderful sense of presence and power, yet this was wed to effortless balance and clarity, with its beautifully mouthfilling flavours dark cherry tones moving through the palate in a pure, singular, laser-like beam. It was quite remarkable how focused the wine was in spite of its deep moreishness. There was a good amount of complexity too, with a some meatiness on the midpalate and then a lively flush of warm spice nestling amidst some raisiny tones in a long, effortlessly powerful finish. Solid. A great wine, and drinking so nicely now as well.

Griotte-Chambertin Dinner (Graham Elliot - Chicago IL): Tasted single blind. Open approx 3 1/2 hours, not decanted. Mature black fruit aromas, oak still protrudes a little. Advanced as well on palate, this is in its drinking window but should best be consumed in the next few years.

some oak but well buffered in an an abundance of elegant pure and long fruit. Gorgeous bottle.
