Very smooth but too much vanilla butter and cream - malo ferm overdone on this wine, and it hides the beauty of the tempranillo fruit. Still if you like that style as some did, it's a winner.

3hr decant, has mellowed since the last bottle I had a couple years ago. Still packs a punch, warm spice, warm ripe plum, oak fairly evident but much more integrated than before. Doesn't really make me think tempranillo, a good wine not great, doubt this will improve but wont fade for a while either.

We had this wine side by side with the 2009 Epoch Tepranillo (non-reserva). It was very apparent with the longer barrel aging of the Reserva, the 2 are very different. The reserva had more notes of dark berries, vanilla, earthiness and "muscle" whereas the non-reserva was more fruit forward on the nose. After about 2 hours of oxidation, the wine opened even more so revealing more earthiness and tobacco notes. This is a very powerful wine and is a great effort by Epoch.

Very big paso style wine, lots of oak, BIG tannins, a good concentration of fruit (mostly black/blue fruit). My friends who are really into the big and bold wines loved it, I felt the fruit was a little overshadowed and could probably use some more time. Will wait to open the next bottle.
