  • Still slightly cloudy. The nose is rocking, subtle mineral, oak spice and Meyer lemon. The palate is very lively, with a glycerol laden texture that is silky and intense, lots of acid and a lingering finish. Really special and holding up very well after 15+ years.

  • This was delicious and we liked it better than 2014. Yes, it showed its age and was not as racy and crispy as its younger sibling, but it added mouth filling complexity, polished edges, and an almost viscous texture. Even the white Burgundy snobs among us were impressed.

  • Good Wine with a Boring Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Social walk-around tasting, brief note. Great stuff, but slightly corked.

  • I was expecting this to be dead, but damn it delivered. Outside of the color, no negative signs of oxidation. There was plenty of fruit, mineral, and acidity. Perhaps a touch of honey. Complex with a singing finish. A different wine than in its youth and probably more my style now. Bought on release and stored in temp control since.

  • Let me start by saying that I like and appreciate older wines. I have recently written about the 1936 Vega-Sicilia Unico and a large number of over the hill wines of the 70's and 80's.

That said this did not disappoint. The aromas are amazing with morning meadow, lavender and freshly picked apples. The flavors are so complex I cannot begin to isolate them. I will try and .......Here goes.

The initial flavors are ripe pear, ripe melon, and a simple sugar syrup paste. The flavors continue and include an overwhelming and aged sauterne and finish with green apples and kiwi.

You could say that the wine is over the hill but with such a unique flavor profile ............ who cares....... I don't because this was a wonderful experience of flavors !
