Napa Valley Wine and Food Excursion 2013; 9/30/2013-10/5/2013 (Napa Valley, California): This 100% Zinfandel sees no oak. Instead, it is fermented in 300-year-old clay vessels and is stored in the same clay pots. Medium ruby in color, it has an unusual nose of green olives, green bell peppers, mushrooms and a hint of black cherry. Medium-bodied, round and without any alcoholic heat, it shows the same "green" element on the palate as it does on the nose. There is virtually no varietal character here. Not corked, not prematurely oxidized, this is simply just bad wine! Drink...never.
