  • Keller Pettenthal Großes Gewächs - full vertical tasting (2009-2017) (@Private location): *** view note in context of full tasting ***
    Glass: Gabriel Standard
Keller is a different animal. It is all about tension, precision and extract. This needs time.
I noticed this change in style at other KPK GGs as well. More and more this wine transforms towards precision, focus and tension. 2012 is a great start. So fresh and young. Nose with some pineapple, citrus and lime. So much pressure and tension, while keeping its balance. Some residual sugar, well balanced by the high acidity. Give it 5-7+ years. 93-94++

  • Weekly tasting group RWP #281: 4 whites + 9 reds fully blind (@ BS): Beautiful and expressive bouquet with a touch of petrol and citrus like orange. On the palate a beautiful and complex wine with honey, citrus, a enormous concentration and a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness.

  • Leiden at Librije zusje: Nose with orange, grapefruit and petrol. Taste very pure and balanced, again grapefruit, orange zest, citrus, some bitterness, long finish. Lovely backbone with minerals. Because of my limited Riesling experience this wine is hard to rate, but I really enjoyed it.

  • Clear, light golden color. Youthful nose with beautiful fresh aromas which I often find in Niersteiner Riesling: tart / bitter oranges, elder flower and other flowers, salty minerality, hints of smoke. When it gets warmer (about 10+ degrees) some riper fruits joins the choir.
Dry, with high but well integrated acidity and modest alcohol (12%). It has power without being fat rather elegant and coats the complete mouth with beautiful aromas of orange zests, some quinine (like in Schweppes bitter lemon -> positive), ripe pear, wine yard peaches and grapefruit. The aromas are quite intense and will echo in the mouth 30-90 seconds after swallowing the wine. Great, even at this early stage of development. You have to focus on this wine it is not a block buster and requires a lot of attention, but if you are willing to spend some time it will show sheer beauty.
Yes, I know I should have kept this bottle sealed for several more years, but I could not resist  It will certainly develop and improve for 3-8 more years. If you drink it now, use big glasses and give it some air.
