  • In a great drinking window now. Menthol and blackberry. Very fine tannins and a lot of creamy texture give this a great mouthfeel. Some secondary development give it nice complexity without sacrificing any of the fruit. Good finish. Perhaps not a top year in Napa but more approachable than many of the Bonds after 12 years.

  • Kleur: Diep donkerrood met een dun randje. Aroma / boeket: Aangenaam en 'donker' boeket. Gedroogd donker fruit, afgespoelde (zoetzure) appelstroop.

Colour: Deep dark red with a thin edge. Aroma / bouquet: Pleasant and 'dark' bouquet. Dried dark fruit, rinsed (sweet and sour) apple syrup. Taste / Aftertaste: Powerful with supple, buttery power. Soft acidity and buttery, licorice-like tannins give this wine an exceptionally soft and almost 'creamy' impression. As with the recently tasted Quella 2011, the tannins only emerge in the pleasantly long finish. General / potential: Not a top year, but an extremely pleasant - and currently optimally drinkable - 'Napa Premier Cru'. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 11 + Taste / Aftertaste: 17 + General / Potential: 9 = 92/100

  • Tobacco, eucalyptus, sweet berries, cedar, vanilla, and florals. Good verve and not astringent. Missing a little something in the mid-palate, but otherwise tasty.

  • The longer this sits...the better it gets!

  • Delicious right now, the 2011 St. Eden is nearly black with a ruby rim, and has a nose that leans towards the briary, tobacco side of cabernet (it reminds me of the Montrose 1990, in fact). I find eucalyptus oil on the ripe blackcap nose, then vanilla and black chocolate as the fruit aromas fade into background. The tobacco note is more evident on the powerful, slightly bitter palate, which has polished tannins and a long finish. Great performance for a difficult vintage!
