Shiraz and Cabernet cepage from Australia. Entry level wine from Penfolds. Nice dark red color. Nose comes with black fruit like blackcurrant, hint of pepper and sweet spices. In the mouth is full-bodied. Dense. Plums. Good wine. Tres bon prix.

A blend of Shiraz (65%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (35%). Aged for 5-6 months in oak.
Very slightly translucent, deep dark ruby color. Somewhat restrained but quite sweet nose with aromas of ripe red fruits, strawberry jam, some savory wood tones, a little bit of peppery spice and hints of dark cherries and sour cherry marmalade. The wine is full-bodied, round and a bit soft on the palate with velvety smooth mouthfeel and dark-toned flavors of savory wood spice, dark plums, some sweeter baking spice character, a little bit of red fruit jam and a hint of eucalyptus. Overall the flavors are a bit vague, lacking form, which also applies to the wine which feels rather dull and flabby, thanks to the modest-to-medium acidity and ripe low-to-medium tannins. The finish is quite long, dark-toned and spicy with flavors of black pepper, some savory raw cocoa character, a little bit of ripe blackcurrant and a hint of dusty earth.
A quite dull, soft and a bit boring Aussie red lacking focus and precision. The flavors are pretty vague and overall the wine could just be summed up simply as "spicy with ripe dark fruit and light jammy character" with very little of value lost, information-wise. There is really nothing to keep me engaged here. A textbook example of boring Aussie plonk. Not really worth the 9,98€.

Purple red. Lacked punch on first mouthful but with pleasant flavours that matched the nose: dark fruit mostly cherry, with a zest of pepper and licorice. Opened up quickly thereafter. A tad too much jammy sweetness on the finish for my taste this time.

Grapey yeasty nose. Lots of fruit, perhaps sweet and with a yeasty finish. Is this done fermenting? Ugh.
