Appearance: medium ruby. Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of lavender, toast, dark cherry, cloves, sweet blueberry, mocha, smoke, five spices, capsicum. It’s developing. Palate: dry, high acidity, high tannins fine grain, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus flavour intensity. A little mineral flavours and chocolate at the finish. The finish is medium plus. Overall, it’s a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing. Well-made MR cabs with complex notes on the nose (which is the highlight of this wine). The tannins structure is tight but fine to guarantee long term ageing potential. It has great balance between high acidity and layers of flavours on the palate, however the flavour intensity has not achieved outstanding level yet. The finish is a touch shorter than being long. This bottle still drinks really young. To me, I feel something is missing in this wine, especially given it’s regular price of over AUD100. I would be buying it if it’s half of the price.

Margaret River wines on tour in Sydney (Custom House, Circular Quay, Sydney): Herbaceous over cedar, slight caramel, vanilla and an almost burnt note. In the mouth the wine is off dry, chewy and unpleasant. But this is joined by more fruit on the palate which carries after this initial assault. Hmm
