Charming and spritely, with an exquisitely delicate balance between citric tartness and powdery sweetness. Strawberries, limes, and sugar dust, so inviting and graceful, so energetic, so suavely textured and utterly perfected, with every sip I swoon just a bit. The heart of a hummingbird and maybe a little bit of its soul.

Pale straw, bright, shimmering. The nose is reluctant to offer up much beyond some distant notes of apple and mineral at this young stage. The palate has slightly more typicity, at first, and then really gets going by the second hour. Really brisk acids, and young, almost sheepish fruit that is clean and pure. This will never be in the outstanding category, but for the money, it's an exceeds. Give this aeration now, or better, cellar for 4-5 years and let this come together. 9,0% abv, recommended, drink thru 2024

(Alfred Merkelbach Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese #7) Very light green-tinged yellow color; tart green apple, lime nose; tart green apple, lime, mineral palate; medium-plus finish
