Definitely the best (of 3!) sparkling shiraz I've ever had. Pretty much tasted exactly like red spicy wine with bubbles. A touch of sweetness perceived too, made it a fun, if rather odd, apertif. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for sparkling shiraz, but how many people would that be?

Color: Dark ruby. (red 'head' looks amazing being poured!). Nose: Couldn't get much off the nose in a flute, so switched to a big wine glass. Then I got aromas of black cherries, black pepper, and a whiff of lavender, along with a whiff of tar. On the palate...the bubbles are nice but fade quickly. Big red fruit explosion, then tobacco, pepper/spice, leather and tar. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy but not heavy. A hint of residual sugar but not a lot. As I continued I picked out cinnamon as well. The finish is pretty fruit-dominated, and medium-long. The mid-palate is the star here. It's amazing how completely contained the 14% alc is! Started with a pop-n-pour while grilling hamburgers and corn on the cob. Paired beautifully with this 'on the deck' meal. Having with food, it seemed like more layers of spice and even minerality came out in the mid-palate This is really fun. More than a novelty (which is how I considered it when I bought it), this was actually really good!

Tasted amazing, then bad, then pretty good. Drank while watching KU-UNC Final Four game which was amaizing, then bad, then pretty good. Therefore, I'm going to refrain from scoring this. The night was too emotional too really get into the wine.
