This wine was in it's element. The old wine funk blew off in 5 minutes and it was like drinking an older Chianti Reserve. Medium bodied, with cherry and blood orange notes. Tobacco trailing notes were light and enjoyable. My last bottle.

Oak. Oak. Oak. Did I mention Oak? Biting a barrel may give a lesser impression of wood. Oak indeed. Sadly it is clear there is a wine underneath all this terribly oppressive wet blanket of wood. There is a medium plus acid and good body to the wine and a touch of mineral. A certain vinous quality under a relatively spry oaky vanilla and mocha concoction. Frankly heady, full bodied with a 15%+ ETOH, but 100% made. Am almost completely unnatural product. Sadly, could have been a real keeper. Not only that... Day 2: Oak Day 3: Oak Day 4: Oak and underbrush. At this point I'm impressed. Finally a little note that suggests this could be sangiovese. 10 years old and open for 3 days and it tastes almost just as it did day one except a little leaner. The oak may well outlast us all. Had to finally review the spec sheet. 20% new oak in barrique and puncheon. No comment on when malo took place, but probably in new barrel to exacerbate each bit of that 20%. Extended maceration to make sure it will last indefinitely. Doubt it is going anywhere.

This wine is nearing peak drinking. Garnet body- brick colored edges. Rose flower petals crushed. Then after some funk blows off thyme and orange rinds. Crushed red flowers and fruits. Reminds me of some older Chianti reserves. Very nice. I bought this at the winery in 2014.

We visited Italy recently and fell in love with the Brunello Di Montalcino wine. This is very close to that! Visited Sonoma in the same year and joined the Petroni wine club. This is made in the Brunello style in Sonoma. Highly recommended to get a taste of Italy! This is a great wine!
