  • Medium ruby colored. Peppery spices on the nose, with dried red flowers and vanilla on top of black currants and black cherries. The palate shows fine tannins and surprising acid. Tart berries and plums mix with black pepper, tobacco leaf and meaty undertones. Balanced and fresh at 13% alcohol, a medium+ finish with notes of herbal liqueur. Quite delicious and earthy, even elegant. I'm surprised at how much this wine is rocking. Way to go Livermore Valley! A unique blend of 32% Souzao, 22% Petite Sirah, 21% Tempranillo, 13% Barbera, 11% Graciano and 1% Touriga Francesa.

  • Nose was very tight on opening. Opened up quite a bit after 1.5hrs decanting. Blackberry jam with a hint of graphite and a little heat on the nose. Blackberry on attack, medium body, charcoal and raspberry lead to a dry finish. Good acidity, lacks tannins a little mono-dimensional, lacks depth. But overall decent wine that would probably go great with a meaty lasagna.

  • Murrieta’s Well 2011 Los Tesoros Zarzuela (SRP $45): This is an intriguing red blend from California’s Livermore Valley composed of 32% Souzão, 22% Petite Sirah, 21% Tempranillo, 13% Barbera, 11% Graciano, and 1% Touriga Francesa. Deep garnet in color, the blend exhibits an inviting chorus of crushed black and blue fruit, spiced plum, black olive, and dried herb with warm earth undertones. The palate is medium-bodied with good acid-fruit balance, a supple texture, and soft tannins that completes with a pleasant lingering finish. This wine has an appealing savory aspect to it and drinks nicely on its own; yet, would be a nice match for pork loin, venison or lamb chops – even a warm bowl of chili considering the season. Hint, hint! Approximately 450 cases of this wine were produced. (Other info: ABV 13.2%, aged 20 months in new and neutral French, Eastern European, and American oak barrels.) 90 Points.

  • Inky opaque black red color with very appealing mixed berry - blueberry, plum, black cherry, and raspberry - and vanilla aromas. On the palate, it approaches full-bodied and is well balanced with well integrated tannins, ample focused fruit and very good acidity. It shows bright blueberry, black cherry raspberry, vanilla and spice flavors. Long finish. Eclectic blend of 32% Souzao, 22% Petite Sirah, 21% Tempranillo, 13% Barbera, 11% Graciano, 1% Touriga. 13.2% alcohol. Aged 20 months in French, Eastern European, American and neutral oak barrels
