  • 94-95: well, this wine is stunning. Still vibrant in the glass, little sign of bricking. Nose is big, earthy, hints of sweetness, but the palate was definitely on the lean side. Acid and tannins still strong - dare I say at 20 this wine is still young? Finish lingered. Extremely impressive, but definitely on the Old World side. Cellar kept since purchase.

  • Tasted at Marco Brunello's dinner in his home.
Marco is very generous in opening very old and/or very expensive bottles each time we are his guests.
Immense deep purple color; very powerful nose: chocolate and violets; you can smell the wine almost a half a meter away.
It almost blows you away. For me: too much new world and too much sweet fruit. Michael Broadbent would say: "Overblown"
The wine did not really match the superb Ribeye on the bone, from Scottish beef cows, served with it. It was too powerful instead of blending in...

  • Dark purple hues, almost a tinge of orange at the edge. Harmonious bouquet of black cherries and dried plum with a hint of pine wreath. Medium bodied with soft velvety tannins and some fresh tartness associated with a good Kenyan coffee. The wine became sweeter and more expansive with time in glass, suggesting potentially a bit more longevity ahead.

  • for a not so strong vintage this has a lot in store. took a while to open fully up - once it did it was very enjoyable.

  • Had this at Pietrasanta and the Italian waiter "drifted" to my table to comment on the wine. Opened up with bright red cherries and an appealing aroma. Medium gritty tannins which faded away mid way through dinner with a nice merlot fruit attack and a long finish. Not a great year for Masseto but satisfactory.
