Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): A much better bottle than one many years ago. This drinks seriously like some old-school champagne, with a very generous, almost baroque amount of dosage, giving this an almost Sauternes-like texture on the palate, with its toffee and marmalade notes. Very rich and dense, and while I wish this had a spot more fizz, this was drinking brilliantly for an old champagne.

Rose Champagne Dinner (Nico Osteria): Aromas of very old mushroom, rust and dust. Not appealing. Palate has sherry like flavors with some sweet caramel and roasted nuts. Has decent length. More advanced than I care for.

#roseallday (Chicago, IL): Mushrooms all over the place here. The nose shows some sherry-like qualities as well, with salinity and nuttiness. While this isn't a totally shot bottle, it's not a stupendous one either. Mostly old and tired on the palate, with a surprising amount of sweetness and a surprising lack of acidity. This bottle, alas, was more interesting than good.

Drank at La Fete du Champagne dinner. Unfortunately a bad bottle. Still vibrant mousse and nice color, but a sharp and overwhelming metallic taste. Bummer.
