PnP over 2-3 hours. This was a steal at $20. Probably close to the edge in terms of age, but showed so well.
Slight browning/bricking.
Closed nose at first with a strong menthol note - not promising - but it evolved quickly to reveal clove, tomato, basil, black fruit, cedar, and smoke/bacon.
Tasted of some red fruit and more smoked pork, but those were complemented by secondary flavors of leather, cedar, and pepper.
Acid medium and fully resolved tannin led to a medium-long finish.
Glad I have another.

At its peak prime about now.... Very nice and fun wine. On the nose comes the strong note of a cedar lined humidor. On the palate, lots of nice green tobacco, dark fruit, pure Cocoa.... it lasted and lasted, good structure and it showed very well...
Took it to a blind tasting and it was the wine of the day... beat out some other remarkable wines.... I was quite impressed, but drink by end of 2012 or you risk losing some of its uumph.

Lovely aged Gigondas, nice meaty dark fruit, not "over the hill" at all..

Gorgeous rustic, spicy nose (A-/A). Excellent, smooth palate (B++). Exactly what I would want from a mature Gigondas! 92-93 pts.
