Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Best 2 bottles of the lot. Blossomed into a complex and elegant wine. Clearly I should have waited to have the other bottles. Not a hint of bricking. If you have any, start to drink now and enjoy for another 5 years.

  • Consistent with the last bottle, however it has not progressed much in a year. A very good wine, much less complex, less fresh, less backbone than other CMR variants.

  • Burgundy color with little taste or flavor, and hard to recognize as a Pinot Noir. Much different from the last bottle, and possibly an off bottle. I decided not to give it a rating.

  • Part of a CMR horizontal. Blood red, the more smoky, cola, cherry of the 3. Nice long finish. Excellent structure and complexity.

  • Burgundy color with a bouquet and flavor made up almost completely of the spicy and dry brown sugar notes that form a background in Burgundy wines. Very little fruit in evidence. The Flowers' style is restrained compared with what California vintners can offer by way of fruit (think Aubert or Marcassin). Even so, Flowers' wines are better than most Burgundy wines, where it is hard to find much flavor of any kind. Before signing off, I would like to add a comment about "forest floor," a taste descriptor often seen in tasting notes on Pinot Noir wines. I do not use it because I don't know what forest floor is being recalled, which would be a matter of both place and time. Such descriptors simply show the difficulty of capturing wine tastes and smells by comparison with common experiences. The less common the taste or smell, the less meaning for the average taster.
