Oh dear, what infanticide I have commited. Still a rather scarlet meniscus with heaps of black bramble fruit with some cherries and a hint of farmyard on the nose. Pinging fruit with some cranberry accents others have noted, but with mushrooms, and dust adding secondary intrigue. Rather grippy tannins and some pretty assertive acid. Needs lots of air for full enjoyment now, but should improve over the next 10 years.

love Randall but I'm not sure what the point of aging this was. It just softened and integrated and became unthrilling compared to when it was first released. I miss the tannin and nervous energy it had in its youth.
Blind Cali Reds (Washington, DC): A kind of purple-cranberry color in the glass. Black cherries, cranberries on the nose, some complex spice tones, with black pepper, dried herbs, some earthy-mushroom accents. Very pretty on the nose. The palate is great: gritty tannins, crisp acid and tons of flavor. The fruit is dark and crunchy, like the skins of black cherries and plums, and I get all of these pepper, earth, menthol and pickle notes, maybe even some braised meat. Old world accents, but it’s got the grit of a California Rhone blend. I knew this batch of reds was from California, but this would be a great ringer in a Chateauneuf tasting. Impressed with this blend of 30% Syrah, 28% Grenache, 22% Mourvedre and 20% Cinsault.

Different texture to the regular cuvee, more serious, too, with greater spice and a high-toned, bretty aspect that really makes the fruit sing. For keeping.
