Note based on two magnums drunk at the same lunch, with consistent results. Not sure why the reviews (CT/Jancis) are so mediocre, as we all thought this wine excellent, irrespective of its status or price. Good depth of dark, classic Claret aroma and flavour, plenty of acidity, and a notably refreshing and piquant bitter orange note - superb with the beef but also excellent without any food. If I were to sound a negative, it would be with the fact the wine was so ready to drink even in magnum format, which makes me wonder about the vintage as a whole.

Solid drinker at the moment. Nothing too crazy going on. Great wine to open in casual setting when not many people are focused on what they’re drinking. Very enjoyable though. Might have a few years left, but drink up if you’re sitting on any.

2 hour decant. This was better than I had remembered. Absolutely singing at the moment if you like primary Haut-Medoc. No secondary notes as yet. Nice fullness on the nose. Palate is very good indeed without piercing intensity but somehow leaving your throat soaked in flavour. The pleasure of the finish leaves you reaching for the glass for another taste. Quite a seductive or hedonistic vintage for Peyrabon. On the neg side, there is a certain confected or artificial quality to the fruit, which lacks the confidence and intellect of a top vintage. One to buy by the case (if you see it at a good price).

Medium bodied, dry, and balanced, with notes of dark fruits and graphite.
Still drinkable, but I wish I had opened this back in 2018.
