Black cherries on the nose. Lush fruit, blackberries, cherries. Bit of heat, but tolerable at this point. Plush tannins, decent acidity, good balance. Finishes long with bright cherry notes. With time it smooths out and the heat is less obvious. It becomes brighter and clearer. My guess is that this is on the downslope. I'd drink over the next 2 years.

Raspberry and cherry nose. Smooth fruit, cherries, blackberries, a liqueur like feel. The fruit brightens as it gets air. Finishes moderately long with subtle cherry notes. This has lots of bright berry fruit. I'd drink over the next two years.

Yangarra Estate (United Cellars, 100 William Street, Sydney): Oh bugger, dirty glass again. Not much luck tonight. Massive agitation helps and with time the wine begins to open to reveal some polished oak and the red berry fruit grows concentrated and savoury In the mouth it is fleshy, juicy, the fruit is more subtle on the palate with plenty of front of mouth tannic grip joining the mid palate burr. Hmm. I'd like to try this again in a different glass.

A really great wine. It's big for a grenache but maintains this wonderful vibrancy. A raspberry mineral streak. There's also dark fruits, spices and liquorice. Some earthy complexity too and florals on the nose. Dances on the tongue. Perhaps its not as finessed and long as the 2012 and 2013 which I've also tried, but its still bloody good.

Sunday lunch with the Wine-Ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Rich, ripe, slightly jammy, red berry backed by savoury spice. Juicy, fleshy, red berries, less jammy on the palate, fruit forward, fairly simple, nominal texture. Hmm.
