  • This is more like my earlier bottle than the last one. Lovely tertiary notes of mushroom, but also nice dark red fruits. This is exactly what I love with aged wines. This still has a lot of power. Perhaps will not improve but this one, unlike the last one, is not falling apart at all.

  • A bit heavy on the oak at the initial attack after PnP. As it warmed from cellar to room temp and got some air, it really started to open up. Some nice tart cherry notes on the nose, with hints of capsicum, roasted red peppers, and a nice acidic tone in the nose. A bit muted now on the attack, with a sweet mid palate that still shows its oak. Some nice acidity lifts the finish a bit. Enjoyable, but not as complex or evolved as I would have liked. After two hours or so it begins to fade and become even less interesting. At its best, its first hour, it was a treat, but then backed down. The score then is cumulative taking into account the high and low.

  • I really enjoyed this wine. Very strong peppery nose, with strong pencil lead as well. Nice, tight dark red fruit on the palate. Much more European/French than American. This will not be an amazing or blockbuster wine, but it is quite solid and very good to bordering on excellent. I am curious how it will fare in a year or two. I suspect well. The color is still good and dark. Not much hint of oxidation or other signs of being over the hill. Had it with a simple burger -- I think it would be really good with a medium rare steak.

  • Opened without the benefit of food pairing. Was just perfect for a glass of wine with friends. Nice cherry notes and a peppery finish. Very nice. I suppose that the wine gets better when the guests are good friends and the conversation is stimulating.

  • Showed well for its age. Very pleasant drinking.
