Splash decant and served. Really a nice surprise here, especially with no real decant. Cassis and plums, earth and dusty tannins, plenty of fruit still, and little to no sign of the heat of the vintage. Based on this bottle, time left.

Decanted 2 hours. Nice mature Bordeaux offering plum, cassis, leather with a little graphite and dusty earth. Medium bodied, tannins mostly resolved with enough fruit still, this really delivered over expectations. Based on this bottle, plenty of time left.
Popped and poured. Oak, Cassis and plums on the nose. Very clenched palate, dusty/drying tannins with decent acidity. Not a great texture, and not sure if this will evolve positively from here?

Over the hill. Oxidative flavor profile. Mostly secondary nose menthol burning off in 20 minutes leaving slight cassis, licorice, lead pencil, and then with only it sitting in my glass for 15 minutes, turning to prunes. Palate with faded fruit, oddly disproportionate with a bloated mouthfeel from the high alcohol and shallow depth of flavor, mostly noticing the almost burnt woody tannins.
This was my only bottle - obtained from Winebid. Perhaps a storage issue, but I know I was pushing it with what CTs were already experiencing recently and won't ever truly know where it's supposed to be in its drinking window cuz I won't be trying it again.

(Clos Les Lunelles) #1; VaynerPAZZZ (based on QPR); COLOR-dark; NOSE-very intriguing nose; an salty minerality play; like sardine juice meets strawberry juice; a little rusty nail and some broccoli top; it's green; it's mechanical; it's a little earthy; it's a little funky at the end of the day; PALATE-I like the Merlot flavor giving it good initial power on the palate; but this is a 2003 Bordeaux which was a very hot vintage (temperature wise) and the fruit is a little burnt; I like the initial fruit; there's some really pretty red cranberry and red cherry flavors going on; the Merlot is signing to me; I like this rusty nail - copper action; but then it gets a little hot and burnt; RP-92; GV-88
(LUNELLES Clos les) Clos les Lunelles Dear Friends, A final parcel of this wine has popped up and it’s going for less than it did on pre-arrival three years ago. This is another top buy that (once again) reinforces the notion that you do not have to spend a fortune to get the best of Bordeaux. If you are, take a step back and ask yourself why? This is a wine that will appeal to die-hard Right Bank fans and Napa enthusiasts as well (a top vintage of Pride Reserve Claret comes to mind, maybe the 1996?). If you are paying a bit more for Pavie or other Perse properties, this is a wine you need to consider as it contains the signature Gerard style of terroir meshed with intensity and extract but it sells for a fraction of what Pavie, Pavie-Macquin and Pavie-Decesse command. Are they that much better in 2003? I don’t think so: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for value at the high-end in a very expensive vintage ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price, directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance: 2003 Clos les Lunelles (Cotes de Castillon) (IWC89-92) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord8870

Definitely a bit of a roasted, stewed character. A little monolithic. Not my thing, but not altogether unpleasant.
