  • What a Great Wine - I was very pleassed about my last bottle - and I still do such a Long and pronounced aftertaste - soft tannins - medium tannins - so well integrated - lofts of fruit (see my last note for a list). I also get leather and Tobacco - I am ending on a large 95 - a Great Wine.

  • Wine Ramblings belated birthday gathering at ESK. Tasted blind to the vintage. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance is clear, very pale intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red licorice, potpourri, bright red cherries, ripe strawberry. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of fine leather, sweet spices, red licorice, bright red cherries, ripe strawberry, sweet earth with slight truffle mushroom, hint of cola. Very long finish.
Excellent quality. Very complex. Very pleasing mouth-filling mouthfeel.
Bravo, what an awesome wine this is, bad vintage be dammed. Great drinking.

  • Fascinatingly, this was less accessible than the PdS Riserva from 2011 we tasted alongside it. It was a beautiful wine in its own right, but surpassed for me by the Riserva and a Percarlo.

  • Pretty fabulous and I agree in the sweet spot. Best on the PnP, then forms up nicely with air. Sour cherry, a little eucalyptus. Savory and masculine with a little tar and rubber. Medium plus in body, but not lacking in structure. This is serious top tier BdM and should continue to improve for a decade.

  • This is a really elegant Brunello in its sweet spot, silky, rose-perfumed, and beguiling, with tannins that are largely resolved, and enough fruit to counter the balsamic notes - and the last glass was the best, always a good sign.
