Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 95 points

  • I generally don't assign a high score for young CA cabs, but the 2009 Macdonald stood out of a strong lineup of wines over a 3-day weekend. Opened and decanted for several hours, the nose smelled like a warm blueberry pie minus the overwhelming mocha/vanilla notes. It was rich and velvety on the palate and coated my tongue with luscious blue and black fruits. Tannins and acidity kept the fruit in check. It didn't feel like a full-throttle cult cab - but was just a well-balanced, delicious wine.
