very very good. mellow, concentrated fruit but still balanced given the age. glad that I waited / kept this in storage. not sure will last more than another year or so. drink now

Decant and pour. Color deep garnet, made darker with extract. Prototypic merlot nose showing moderate age with a moderately generous bouquet of cherries, cocoa, and secondaries of leather and tomato. Same flavors on the palate, with an earthy finish including black olive. Low acid, soft tannins, and the length was relatively short. A very pleasant merlot, nothing earth shattering. Don't remember exactly what I paid, but I believe it was 25-30, in which case this is not a great QPR.

Rich nose of blackberry and currants with spice and sage. Deep garnet in color. Well-balanced tannins carry flavors of cocoa, herbs, tobacco and dark fruits. Very complex, both earthy and fruity. Very nice pairing with cranberry-pork roast and sage mashed potatoes.

This latest from K&L is that alien vine, the soft easy fruit known as Merlot, with some vanilla, cassis and marzipan tones... not my style but pretty tasty I must admit. It isn't complex but it doesn't taste watered down like some Merlot; this one has more darkness and depth. Should you stop hating on Merlot? Not yet. It doesn't suck, but it doesn't need to be your token bottle all the same, even if it is a pretty good value.
