  • Consistent with my previous tasting notes. The warm vintage 2009 is pretty obvious here with the sweeter, at times even jammier fruit notes and high alcohol, but the wine still comes across as enjoyably balanced, structured and remarkably fresh, thanks to its quite high acidity and firm tannins. Lovely depth and complexity here, most likely the wine will continue to develop for years more.

  • A blend of Syrah (60%) and Mourvèdre (30%) with the remainder rounded out with Grenache and Cinsaut. Aged for 24 months in oak. 14,8% alcohol.

Consistent with my previous tasting note. A big, rich and somewhat soft heavy-hitter with quite nice sense of structure. Being not too polished, the wine shows some bretty funk and volatile character, but definitely not too much. Perhaps a bit too big and ripe, I'd probably prefer a version from a bit cooler vintage. Also the oak influence could be a bit less obvious, too. Nevertheless, pretty fine stuff. Might gain more finesse and complexity if the oak integrates over time.

  • A blend of Syrah (60%) and Mourvèdre (30%) with the remainder rounded out with Grenache and Cinsaut. Aged for 24 months in oak. 14,8% alcohol.

Luminous, moderately translucent and quite deep cherry red color with some bricking towards the rim. The nose is ripe, sweet and somewhat rustic with rather earthy aromas of leathery funk, plum-driven sunny dark fruits, some inky character, a little bit of sweet strawberry, gently lifted notes of VA and a hint of toasty and slightly smoky oak. The wine is full-bodied, rather heavy and pretty rich with brooding, concentrated flavors of succulent dark plums, very ripe dark berries, some boozy alcohol, a little bit of chocolatey oak, light notes of balancing bitterness, developed hints of prunes and dried figs and a touch of jammy red fruits. Contrasting the obvious ripeness and big body, the wine is surprisingly high in acidity, which - along with the firm and rather grippy tannins - lends it a good sense of structure and nice, chewy texture. The finish is rich, powerful and moderately grippy with bold, ripe flavors of ripe dark fruits, some chocolatey oak, light jammy red fruits, a little bit of juicy dark berries like blackberries and boysenberries and a hint of rustic funk.

Perhaps a bit ponderous and oaky wine for my taste, but overall the style is nice: the wine isn't too clean and polished, but shows some pleasant rustic character and despite the hot vintage 2009, the emphasis is not just on the fruit, but also on the rather impressive structure as well. The wine is starting to exhibit the first signs of age, but overall the wine seems to be still going up. Probably the wine will be peaking around 10 years of age, with hopefully all the oaky nuances well integrated with the fruit by then. Nice stuff, priced according to its quality at 24,29€.
