  • I've been walking past this wine in our favorite wine retailers for many years, never thinking that bright red bottle could hold a serious wine. My loss. This stuff is surprisingly drinkable. It is not layered and concentrated, but it does show some good solid fruit with some "Old World" earthy, secondary flavors in a balanced package. Pouring into the decanter, the nose is fresh crushed tart cherry with a hint of roses. The color is moderate red magenta. The flavor profile is not necessarily fruity, rather a flinty, metallic, light green pepper first, then maraschino cherry, currant and blackberry. Surprisingly polished mid palate. Little or no oak, mostly natural flavors. Dry mildly tannic finish with some cocoa bean, graphite and black cherry. Does not have that typical Italian acidity, actually tastes more like a French wine with a little more cherry flavor.
