  • Very enjoyable. Still relatively young and fresh with some structure. No formal note but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

  • Wines for the Super 15 Final: I ran out of time and popped and poured this wine on the night. Doing it again I would give the wine at least a few hours air time ahead of serving. Older colour, beginning to brown. The nose was initially pretty closed, it began to open with spicy, soil and preserved red fruit notes, with a dried herbs component (not out-and-out greenness). The next day the bouquet was even better, with mellow aromas of warm earth, pipe tobacco, dried plums and cherries, old leather and raked up dry autumn leaves. On opening, the palate was initially fairly closed, opening to soil and brown spice flavours with dried and preserved red berries and a little savoury Porcini. Good fruit weight and power. The next day the flavour profile was as mellow as an old leather couch with flavours of warm earth, rusty autumn leaves and dried herbs. Really attractive savouriness, the tannins and acids are now fully integrated. Lovely. This wine is smack bang in its drinking window. Drink in the medium term.

  • Drank twice over the last nine months, both bottles consistent. Transparent rusty red with dark core and watery edges. In the nose nice earthy notes, griotte cherries, red currant, rasperry. Very fine and elegant, very expressive (you can smell it still when not having the glass in your hand). On the palate, it's finely woven with prominent acidity, a rather light body (despite 13.5% Vol.), some muscle. Medium, acidity driven finish. The first bottle was drunk alongside a 1995 Pommard Rugiens from the same producer and was very similar, yet a touch finer. The second bottle was drunk over two days and was undrinkable the second day.

  • Opened and consumed over 2 hours without decant. Nose has a dark fruit profile with cherries becoming sweeter with air. Lots of earthy notes, a touch burned, also becoming more prominent with air. Dried red roses. Good weight on the palate with cherry, brownish earthy notes, a vegetal note from the forest and animal (beefy) scent. Tannins completely resolved. Very complex.
Gains some balance after 30 minutes. Finish is medium long dominated by blood orange acidity. Excellent but probably even better 2-3 years ago.
