Clear deep garnet; clean pronounced nose of balsamic, dried blackberries, cassis, cigar box and figs; dry-ish; high acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; full body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate follows nose with addition of black licorice, cocoa, coffee and mulling spices; long finish; drink now or in a few years - shouldn’t improve too much more; mistook it for Amarone in a blind tasting - it was missing the bandaid tell common to many Ontario efforts

Clear deep garnet - almost coffee colour; clean pronounced nose of balsamic, dried cherries, dried figs, dried plums, vanilla and maple; dry; high acidity; medium tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate shows dried/jammy fruit with addition of leather and coffee: palate develops a bit of a bandaid tang after about 30 minutes; long finish; drink now or in a few years - feels like it’s near it’s peak; delicious wine

I won’t go into the flavours or smells, as I’d have nothing unique to add to what others have already said so I’ll focus elsewhere. This could easily merit a 99 or 100, but that assumes absolute perfection - maybe on my death bed I can come back and change the rating to 100, if nothing else surpasses it by then! This had the longest finish I’ve ever experienced. We didn’t decant it, but I had opened it more than a half-hour before the pour - I wholeheartedly recommend either decanting this or at least opening it a full hour or more before the first pour: the wine was amazing upon first taste, but only got better as time went on! In my decade+ of drinking fine wine, this is only the 3rd wine where I can say it went from “amazing” to “exceptional” during the time it took to consume (1.5 - 2 hrs). We all know non-wine drinkers who have expressed disdain to disgust over the taste of “wine” - as though all wines taste the same (and we know that’s because they haven’t tasted the “right” wine for their palate...). I’ve only tasted a few wines that I believe fall into the category of “if-you’re-going-to-change-the-mind-of-a-wine-hater-this-wine-has-the-‘je-ne-sais-quoi’-to-do-so.” and this is one. That said, this is just way too good to waste on that! You want to share this wine with someone who will appreciate it as much as you will. Despite the price, my only regret is that I didn’t buy a second bottle. If you still have this in your cellar, I wouldn’t be in any immediate rush to consume it, but if you do, you shouldn’t have any regrets! As a proud Canadian, this wine proves that what we can produce here at home is world-class!

Garnet with faded rim; subtle nose of figs, tar, bandaid and smoke; palate is better than nose with addition of sweet cherries and raisins; long, lingering finish; tasted at winery

Full, dark garnet colour. Aromatic, milk chocolate, prune, black earth, vanilla, tobacco, and char nose. Very big bodied, ultra-ripe, with a touch of residual and a firm tannic grip; alcohol is high, but appropriately balanced by the fruit and other structural components. 5/5
