  • My 50th extravaganza (Chez moi): Singing again – what a wine; very mourvèdre (mataro), very elegant, no signs of fatigue, it is intense though light on its feat with red berries still dominating over the more sauvage notes. Thank you, John (and thank you Paul Draper).

  • I will echo all the positive comments here. This is a very classy wine, which showed surprisingly youthful, yet full of secondary and tertiary notes. Berry notes upfront but a strong savory profile on the mid-palate and the finish. More Bordeaux like than Rhone like to me - Cab Franc like in certain aspects. Beautiful today but no rush to drink it if you have it.

  • A weekend in East Sussex (UK): A treat to taste this, soft, sweet, charming, mild yet intense, a world class Mourvèdre-wine that reminds most of a mature Clos de Papes, albeit with a drop more of sweetness, hinting its Californian provenance. Kudos, mr. Schäfer ... so privileged to have been given a bottle of this for my 50th birthday.

  • Everything Salil said (minus the "ripe/California" blah blah - it is 13.6% and it is Mourvedre). An exceptional bottle of Mourvedre, with bright fruits, earthiness, sweet oak, plenty of acidity, and a long finish. Exceptional. Back of the bottle put the drinking window through 2002. They are cray cray. No hurry, and still improving. Wish I had more!

  • An absolutely stunning bottle of Mataro/Mourvedre; a seamless combination of ripe red and dark fruited flavours, touches of oak spice and mature leathery and savoury earthy flavours all coming together on a fragrant, polished, medium weight frame. It's certainly ripe and showing its Californian roots, but the balance is impeccable and it's drinking superbly now even though the fruit, acidity and balance suggest there's plenty of time ahead here.
